Yes Lunarpages sucks!

If you are here to check out Lunarpages, you better read through this post and think carefully again!

I am currently still a customer of Lunarpages, who has been hosting more than 3 web sites with them for more than 4 years. And I have started reviewing web host providers since 2 years ago. Thus I’m quite confident that my experience does help you a little.

Lunarpages was indeed one of the biggest hosts in the world. They offered a big variety of hosting plans and their performance was too good to ignore. That was the old time. I do not know whether they are now ignorant or arrogant that they are no longer a good host even though they are still as big as last time.

I used to recommend Lunarpages but not anymore now!

What causes the change in my mind is mostly because of their sudden price change. They have quietly changed their price structure without notifying their customer and affiliate (me in this case). They used to charge $4.95/month for their basic plan for 12 months term. But now in order to get the $4.95 deal, you need to subscribe to Lunarpages for at least 60 months, which translates into 5 years! And for the 12 months term, they are charging $8.95/month.

There is nothing wrong with the high price but what goes unreasonable is Lunarpages does NOT have the quality of a high priced host!

For instance, Lunarpages customer support sucks!

If you are particular enough, you will notice that Lunarpages does not have 24/7 support. Their email, telephone and live chat support is only available during office hour. This is ridiculous! With the high price you are going to pay – $8.95/month you are not getting 24/7 support! If you are an international customer, you are going to wait for at least 12 hours for a reply, provided they reply on time and you are staying awake the whole night. Otherwise, you can only respond to their message the other day and by that time the support has gone offline already. Imagine the seriousness when you are experiencing emergency with your website.

Yes Lunarpages fails big!

To strengthen my points here, you can always google “Lunarpages sucks” and “Lunarpages complaints” to see how their customer supports have failed others. There are too many complaining voices if you look carefully into it. To me, I really do not recommend Lunarpages.

So if you are thinking of Lunarpages, think again. There are in fact many better web hosts than them. What you need is time to do some researches. Here is my advice, go with Hostgator if you are looking for business hosting and go with FatCow if you are looking for blog hosting or cheap hosting solution.

Basic Hosting Coupon

There are numerous coupons for Basic Hosting. However all discount coupons are not valid for the time being. This is because Lunarpages is having grand sales now. All coupons have to give way to this promotion!

Business Hosting Coupons

As far as I know there are 2 on going coupon codes that you can use to obtain discounts for Business Plan. Below are the details.

Window Hosting Coupons

Window hosting has almost the same discount as Business Hosting. However to attract more users for window hosting Lunarpages has altogether 3 discount coupons.

LPQuicksite Hosting Plan

Last but not least, LPQuicksite has the most discount coupons. Up to 4 different discounts you can choose from. For your information LPQuicksite is a web hosting package which includes web designing service too. When you sign up LPQuicksite, Lunarpages will assign a special team to design and build your website in 24 hours.

These are the Lunarpages discount coupon that I can find so far. Please check back this page from time to time for more updated coupons. I hope all the discount coupons are still valid though. For your information, to use the coupon code, first you need to choose the desired hosting and click buy/order, the page will lead you to a order form where you can apply your coupon codes.

Shared Hosting

Lunarpages has 2 plans offering shared hosting services: the Basic Plan and the Business Plan. Both plans aim to serve different needs. Basic Plan serves individual and small size website while Business Plan serves medium size business.

However in my opinion, the Business Plan is really a joke. Why? Take a closer look at both hosting features and you will realize that both plans have almost the same features except for SSL and 2 extra free domains. And Lunarpages charges $204 extra per year which I think that is completely a joke. Why pay more for SSL which you can install later with cheaper price? Not that your website will fail straight without that.

Why the Business Plan exists at all? Well this is because a few years ago Lunarpages only allows 1 domain name hosted with their Basic Plan and that makes more sense to sign up the Business Plan then. However, it is an unlimited add-on domain age now. With the upgrade of the Basic Plan providing unlimited storage and add-on domains, I seriously think that Business Plan is no longer needed.

VPS Hosting

VPS is another highlight of Lunarpages hosting. Not many hosting providers have VPS Hosting and as a result many people choose Lunarpages for that reason. Web developers usually tend to sign up the Basic Plan first and upgrade to VPS when their website grows bigger.

For you folks who are not sure about VPS, VPS hosting is one step above shared hosting and one step below dedicated hosting. Every VPS account has a dedicated IP and private space like dedicated server. It works exactly the same as dedicated hosting except for the account is sharing 1 physically server together with other customers (though the storage space is partitioned accordingly). Well it sounds like half shared half dedicated hosting.

Other Hosting

Lunarpages also offers other hosting services like reseller and dedicated hosting. For those who are looking for reseller hosting, Lunarpages appears to be a good choice. However I do not recommend Lunarpages for reseller account. I find Hostgator a better alternative on reseller hosting for their nature in this field.

It is also worth noting that Lunarpages has a hosting package named LPQuickSite where their service includes website designing. This package is highly recommended for business owner who are not familiar with web developing. Lunarpages will assign a specify team to design your website and host them up in less than 24 hours. The cost of all these is in fact much lower than the web designers elsewhere.

Lunarpages is a good host for sure. Their variety of services somehow does reflect their quality. By putting yourself in Lunarpages’ shoe, will you promise to deliver so many different hosting services if you are not well equipped enough? Lunarpages is apparently well established. However establishment is not equivalent to excellent quality. And perhaps the next thing to ask is their hosting quality.

For example if you were a subscriber of Virtual Private Server, the number to call for support is 1-877-586-2772 ext 8; while for subscribers of shard hosting, the number to call for support is 1-877-586-2772 ext 3 and etc. Lunarpages has apparently taken every call carefully by assigning them to specified expert. I believe this will improve the efficiency of the support. At least the right person or someone who knows something about it is picking the phone rather than a general operator.
